Code of Conduct
Aberfoyle After School Club
Please read the following rules and conditions with your child.
Aberfoyle School Parent Council is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all children attending the Aberfoyle After School Club (ASC). Aberfoyle Parent Council believes that it is important that children, staff and parents associated with ASC should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others.
Therefore, children, staff and parents/carers/guardians are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club, with the ASC Co-ordinator or Play Leader.
ASC aims to offer a positive experience for children, where they can learn new things in a safe and positive environment.
As an attendee of ASC, your child has rights and responsibilities and is expected to abide by the following junior code of practice:
Children / Young People Are Expected To
- As a group, agree a set of rules / a positive behaviour policy. This will be referred to, displayed and discussed regularly.
- Be friendly and particularly welcoming to new attendees.
- Be loyal and give their friends a second chance.
- Be supportive and committed to other ASC attendees, offer comfort when required.
- Keep within the defined boundary of the school playground.
- Keep yourself safe.
- Make ASC a fun place to be.
- Not cheat or be violent and aggressive.
- Not get involved in inappropriate peer pressure and push others into something they do not want to do.
- Play fairly and be trustworthy.
- Refrain from bullying or persistent use of rough and dangerous play.
- Refrain from the use of bad language or racial/sectarian references. This includes bullying.
- Report inappropriate behaviour or risky situations to a member of staff.
- Respect and listen to staff instructions and accept decisions.
- Respect opponents.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of age, gender, ability, race, cultural background or religious beliefs or sexual identity.
- Show appropriate loyalty and be gracious in defeat.
- Speak to staff in an appropriate, respectful manner.
- Take care of equipment that they use while at ASC.
Children / Young People Have the Right To
- Be listened to.
- Be protected from abuse.
- Be respected and treated fairly.
- Be safe and happy in their chosen activity.
- Enjoy a protective environment.
- Have any concerns taken seriously and acted on.
- Participate on an equal basis, appropriate to their ability.
- Privacy.
Behaviour Policy
Any minor misdemeanours and general misbehaviour will be addressed by the Co-ordinator / Play Leader and reported to Aberfoyle Parent Council and the Headteacher.
- If a child's behaviour is disruptive, they will be asked to sit out for 10 minutes. The Play Leader will inform the parent/carer/guardian when the child is collected that afternoon.
- If this happens a second time during the session, they will sit out for the remainder of the session. The Play Leader will inform the parent/carer/guardian when the child is collected that afternoon.
- Should further misdemeanours and general misbehaviour continue, the Play Leader will inform the parent/carer/guardian that this is no longer acceptable and the parent/carer/guardian, along with the child, will be requested to attend a meeting with a member of Aberfoyle Parent Council and the Headteacher. Aberfoyle Parent Council reserves the right to refuse attendance at the ASC in the event that the child's behaviour does not improve, to a standard deemed acceptable by Aberfoyle Parent Council.
Parents/carers/guardians will be informed at all stages if issues with behaviour arise.
